[edit] Articles about future technologies
An article about a future event or technology is not intended to be a comprehensive encyclopedic entry (such as can be found at Wikipedia) but rather a guide to aid in making forecasts as to the likelihood and timing of it's eventual occurrence. First and foremost, they should be summaries of the current and anticipated state of a particular technology. Where relevant information exists elsewhere, links are included within the article text. Photos, graphics and video clips related to the technology can be included in the article, but if sufficiently numerous may entail the creation of their own subpage. (Such as for a detailed description of a procedure.)
An EventLine can be included within the body of the article for the purpose of providing information about the forecast timeframe and the occurrence of events supporting its development. An EventLine is embedded by including the <timeline2> tag. FutureLines and GroupLines are not generally included in technology articles except where they are dealing with a broader topic, such as the field of biotechology. These are embedded using the <timeline> tag. (See 'Using FutureLines' for formatting information.)
A section listing Leaders in the field provides links for further research as does a section addressing possible Related work in other fields normally considered unrelated. Sections at the end of the article may include References, External links and Milestones.
[edit] Typical sections
A typical article will generally include some or all of the following sections:
- New developments - What's happening in the field?
- Relevant and related technology - What work in other fields might influence progress?
- Issues and concerns - What are the social, environmental, legal and ethical concerns?
- Milestones - What are the key milestones and have any already been achieved?
- Leaders in the field - Who's doing what in this field?
- External links - Relevant web sites and articles
- References - Cite your references
- Comments - (included by using the <cevent> tag)
[edit] Articles about relevant and precursor technologies
Articles about existing technologies relevant to future technologies are included in the same namespace (Main) as future technology articles. These may include as much information as is deemed necessary to support forecasting of other developments and technologies.
