Medicine is the science of maintaining and/or restoring health through the study, diagnosis and treatment of patients. The increases in human longevity over the past few centuries can be directly attributed to advancements in the field, as can the significant reduction and even virtual elimination of some diseases. (This has also come about because of significant societal and policy changes which medical science has influenced.) With further anticipated advancements in the coming decades, changes may occur which would affect society deeply. These include life-extension technologies, regenerative techniques, transhumanism and neural interface technology.
